Residences at Bethel Station Marks New Chapter in Bethel’s Revitalization
$20 million housing development renews historic site and reinforces long-term vision for Boston–Montreal passenger rail connection.
BETHEL, Maine, October 19, 2026 — The Residences at Bethel Station celebrated a major milestone today, highlighting a $20 million private investment in new housing, economic development, and the continued revitalization of downtown Bethel.
The three-story, 38-unit condominium development transforms a long-underutilized property into a residential community within walking distance of Bethel Village and minutes from Sunday River.
The project builds upon a vision dating back more than three decades, when local investors joined public partners to establish Bethel Station as a potential stop along a proposed passenger rail route connecting Boston, Portland, Bethel, and Montreal.
Although passenger rail service has yet to materialize, the original vision helped establish infrastructure and opportunities for future development.
Developer Tony Donovan emphasized the importance of building upon that earlier investment while creating new opportunities for housing, commerce, and recreation in Western Maine.
Maine State Senator Rick Bennett, attending the celebration, praised the development and highlighted the relationship between transportation, housing, tourism, and economic growth.
“Transportation and housing and recreation and economic development don't just happen in isolation,” Bennett said. “They reinforce one another.”
Bennett also reaffirmed his support for exploring passenger rail connections between Boston and Montreal, emphasizing the potential economic benefits for Maine communities and stronger ties with Canada.
The Residences at Bethel Station represents an important step toward realizing the property's potential, combining private investment with a long-standing regional vision.
