Potential Tax Relief for Property Owners Affected by Natural Disasters

With the potential for significant storms this El Niño season, the Nevada County Assessor’s Office reminds property owners that property tax relief may be available if real or personal property is damaged or destroyed by a natural disaster.

To be eligible, damage to real property must exceed $10,000, and a claim must be filed with the Assessor’s Office within 12 months of the disaster.

Relief may include a temporary reduction in assessed value to reflect the damaged condition of the property.
