Why did the Spirit Airlines collapse and what realtors can learn from it
Innovation is important. However, one should exercise caution when dealing with a successful business model. Spirit Airlines discovered this lesson the hard way. According to reports, it ceased operations due to the current geopolitical climate. The conflict and rising fuel prices certainly had an effect, but they were not the primary cause of its failure.
In the 2000s, Spirit had a distinctive “bare fare” business model in which customers paid for any additional services. Charges for carry-ons, a cup of water, and printed boarding passes were all extra. Then they chose to operate similarly to their competitors: Delta, American, and United. This marked the beginning of their decline. They enhanced their seating, added Wi-Fi, renovated their headquarters in Florida, and started to emulate the practices of other airlines.
In the customer's perspective, if I’m paying for everything, why should I choose a discount airline when there are others with better reputations. They tend to feel more at ease flying with well-regarded airlines as long as the fare differences aren’t substantial.
So, what lessons can realtors draw from this? Focus on your specific market, and be careful when adjusting your business model. Commit fully to your niche, intensify your efforts, and avoid trying to cater to everyone.
