Market Watch Monday 📈 Let’s talk interest rates!
There has been a lot of chatter about interest rates since the Fed raised its benchmark rate last month. While much of that decision was already anticipated by the markets, we’ve still seen rates bounce around by 25-50 basis points.
And what a difference a few months can make…
Back in February, mortgage rates dipped to 5.99%, giving the real estate market a much-needed lift going into Spring. Fast-forward to today, rates are hovering around 7.4% and things have cooled considerably.
But here’s a little perspective—looking back over the past 50 years, today’s rates actually fall somewhere in the middle. We’ve seen rates north of 13% and we’ve seen them below 3%. Neither extreme lasts forever.
Mortgage rates will continue to fluctuate, and trying to perfectly time the market is easier said than done. A little historical perspective never hurts in the meantime. 😉
