PSA for our Lake Austin neighbors 🌊
Heads up if you've been following the Lake Austin drawdown news: the City of Austin and LCRA have officially canceled the planned drawdown that was set for October 12 through November 30. It would have dropped the lake roughly 10 feet to give shoreline property owners and city crews a window for dock, bulkhead, and maintenance work, with hydrilla and nuisance vegetation control as part of the conversation too.
After pushback from lake-area businesses worried about losing access during fall wedding season, UT football weekends, and F1, plus LCRA's need to keep hydroelectric generators available for the grid through winter, the city pulled the plan. For now, hydrilla management is being handled through sterile grass carp stocking instead of a full drawdown, and city staff say they'll keep evaluating whether a future drawdown (possibly in 2027) makes sense.
What this means if you own, dock, or are thinking about buying on Lake Austin: water levels should stay normal through the fall, so no need to plan around a temporary low lake. If you've got questions about how lake access, docks, or waterfront maintenance windows could affect your property or a purchase decision, that's exactly the kind of thing our team talks through every day.
