For the elderly tenants moving into Urban Plus's new development in Avalon, this is more than a change of address.

Seeing a brand new unit, built by Miles with their needs in mind, brought some of them to tears. Small details made the difference: generous cupboard space, a deck to sit out on over summer, layouts that actually work for how they live.

Eighteen single bedroom units, now handed over to the community they were built for: older residents who, through Urban Plus, are getting brand-new homes.

This project came together through close collaboration between Urban Plus and Miles, from design through to construction and handover. That partnership shows in the result: units that are warm, dry and ready for the people moving into them.

Future tenants followed the build closely, and their excitement was obvious well before the keys changed hands. It's a reminder of what good social housing delivery actually means for the people on the other end of it.

12 new homes are taking shape at Wainuiomata Marae. 🏠

It has been exciting to see the Wainuiomata Marae Papakāinga move from foundations into the main building phase.

Civil inground works are complete, foundations and piling have substantially progressed and framing, roof construction and roofing are now underway across the development.

Urban Plus has been working alongside Wainuiomata Marae Charitable Trust and our wider project partners throughout the journey - from planning and design through consenting, procurement, civil works and now construction.

The project is working toward handover in February 2027.
Over the coming months we'll continue sharing the progress as these 12 houses become homes.
