HomeSpace Society HomeSpace is on a mission to increase the number of affordable and specialized housing units in Calgary

In 2003, HomeSpace Society (formerly Calgary Community Land Trust Society) was created to fill a need in our community. That need is to significantly increase access to affordable housing and advance community–based planning and delivery of housing options, specifically to vulnerable populations. HomeSpace exists to support social agencies’ access to safe, appropriate and affordable housing for vulnerable populations in our city. We own a portfolio of over 750 units of housing in 24 communities throughout Calgary and we work with agencies who provide supports to vulnerable Calgarians in need of housing. HomeSpace is also a property developer, building specialized permanent housing in order to continually add to the affordable housing stock in our city. We own, operate, develop and provide housing for our community. DIG what we are all about

Dignity: We respect every person’s right to be treated with dignity and have access to a safe, appropriate and affordable home, while acting with integrity to maintain trust from our partners and community. Innovation: We find new and better ways of providing housing – and thereby, we fearlessly challenge the status quo. Growth: We collaborate to grow housing options for the community

HomeSpace is housing our community.

Creating lasting change takes more than housing alone. It takes a community working together.

Our 21 partner agencies play an important role in supporting our residents by providing them with specialized services to help navigate challenges, build connections, and work toward their goals.

By bringing together housing and essential supports, our partnerships help create environments where residents can feel supported, build stability, and move forward with confidence.

We’re sincerely grateful to our partner agencies for their ongoing collaboration and commitment to supporting our residents 🤝🏠

Meet our partner Supported Lifestyles

A proud part of the Calgary community since 1993, Supported Lifestyles is a not-for-profit agency that provides innovative supports to adults with developmental disabilities and complex needs. Their multi-disciplinary team provides comprehensive services which focus on community inclusion and holistic planning. They value the importance of accepting people as they are.

We partner with Supported Lifestyles in 2 of our buildings, where they provide wrap-around supports for persons with developmental disabilities.

We’re grateful to have partnerships like this one so we can focus on building more affordable housing while knowing that our residents have the support they need.

Thank you to all our incredible partners who make this work possible.

Yesterday, HomeSpace celebrated 10 years of creating homes, building community, and supporting people on their journey to stable housing!

As we reflect on the past decade, we’re looking back with a wider lens to recognize the incredible people who have helped our mission. From our generous sponsors and donors to our dedicated volunteers, staff, Board of Directors, and partners, every one of you has played a meaningful role in making HomeSpace what it is today.

A special thank-you to our event sponsors BMO Financial Group , RSM Canada, and Acera Insurance for helping make our 10th anniversary celebration possible!

A decade of impact is only possible because of the people who believe in our mission and stand alongside us. Thank you for being part of our journey and helping us build a future where everyone has a place to call home.

Here's to the next decade! 🎉🏠

We’re grateful to for welcoming our team to the land and giving us the opportunity to volunteer during the Sacred Fire Ceremony and Bringing Them Home gathering.

Being part of this meaningful day was an opportunity to listen, learn, reflect and come together in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation. Thank you to everyone at Miskanawah for sharing this space with us and for the important work you continue to do in bringing people together, honoring community and carrying forward the journey of reconciliation. 🧡

Today, we honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the lasting impacts on Indigenous communities. May we continue to listen, learn, and take meaningful steps toward truth and reconciliation, today and every day 🧡

Meet our partner Miskanawah!

Miskanawah (meaning “pathways” or “many paths” in Cree) is an Indigenous-led charitable organization that is grounded in cultural traditions and teachings and has operated in Calgary for over 35 years. They are a multi-service organization, offering programs and services in the areas of family support (ranging from prevention and early intervention to intervention), youth services, clinical and cultural mental health support, crisis support, housing support, and cultural and ceremonial support.

Their mission, guided by indigenous teachings, is to provide culturally based support services to people in the Calgary area as they strengthen their circles of self, family, community, and culture to thrive.

We partner with Miskanawah in our Whitehorn building, where they provide services to all residents in need.

Thank you to each of our incredible partner agencies for the continuous support you provide to our residents each day. With your help, we are able to combat homelessness and give residents an opportunity to succeed.

Welcome to the HomeSpace board, Alexander!

Born and raised in Calgary, Alexander is a partner practicing in business law, commercial real estate, and real estate development. Throughout his career, he has built a diverse and sophisticated clientele, including residential, commercial, and industrial real estate developers, geomatics companies, energy companies, First Nations, and local, national, and international businesses.

Grounded in values of hard work, discipline, and loyalty, Alexander is committed to providing his clients with tireless effort and practical, effective solutions. His background in small business and real estate gives him a unique understanding of the intricacies of commerce and development, while his entrepreneurial spirit allows him to work alongside his clients to navigate complex challenges and opportunities.

Outside of work, Alexander brings that same entrepreneurial spirit to the golf course — with mixed results!

We’re thrilled to have Alexander join us and look forward to the experience and perspective he’ll bring to the HomeSpace board.
