📣 FRIDAY FLASHBACK | 17 years in Geelong, for Geelong
Monday 6 July 2009. New Colliers International signs went up at 60 Gheringhap Street, and that Saturday’s Geelong Advertiser ran the headline: “Colliers moves in to town.”
Geelong looked a little different then. Ford was still building engines in Norlane, Alcoa was still running at Point Henry, the Ring Road had only just opened, and the Cats were a few months off their second flag in three years.
We weren’t starting from scratch. Colliers Geelong was built on the commercial team of Hayden Real Estate, a name Geelong had trusted since 1961. The relationships, the local knowledge and the people came with us.
A few of them are still here.
• Founding director David Wright has guided the office since day one and remains a director today.
• Branch Manager Ben Young started with us in 2009 and featured in our very first ad.
• The phone number on that 2009 sign is still the one that rings through to our Geelong office today.
Back then, David told the Addy that Geelong was “still an emerging market, particularly on an industrial front.” Seventeen years, tens of thousands of new residents and a few industrial precincts later, we’d say he called it.
Today we’re a short walk away at Level 5, 100 Brougham Street, with a sales and leasing team, a property management team, a regional manager, and a marketing manager, all based right here. Still a Geelong team. Still based in Geelong. Still working for Geelong.
To every client, landlord, tenant, and local business who has worked with us along the way, thank you.
Were you around when we opened on Gheringhap Street? Tell us what you remember.
