Still celebrating the beautiful Itonka Square!

The revamped mall opened for the communities of Itonka, Springs, KwaThema and surrounds on , with customers requested to dress in their traditional attire in celebration of the day.

The original 7 475sqm strip-centre was converted into a fully enclosed 21 500sqm double anchored mall. Additions to the tenant mix include Boxer Superstores, sportscene, Studio 88 Group of Companies, TFG (The Foschini Group), Steers, Debonairs Pizza and Clicks.

Full-service banking from Capitec, FNB, Standard Bank Group and the soon-to-be opened Absa Group add to the convenience of the centre for community members.

A first in the area, an was created in the food court surrounded by Pedros, Hungry Lion and Roman's Pizza.

The R395 million redevelopment (including existing retail space) took just over eight months and created an estimated 550 employment opportunities during construction.

Of those employed 67% (369 positions) were awarded to local candidates with multiple additional tenant positions now available for the community.

17 local SMME’s including security, plant hire, brickwork, plastering, scaffolding, painting, landscaping and paving contributed to the redevelopment programme in alignment with our mission of local first skills development and upliftment.

Not quite a fine tooth comb but as much attention to detail…

It’s easy to look at the final product and overlook the hours of work that went into it.

Seeing the final touches of this play area at Itonka Square being done gave us a moment to pause.

One man, one tool, many hours that most won’t even think about when climbing, running and jumping.

A reminder that the big picture always takes hundreds of smaller steps to get there.

It’s at Dan City Mall.

Months of planning, testing and prepping are about to be put to the test as we move more than property…

Tomorrow, we move our beloved 16m Sycamore fig to its new home – a literal stones throw away.

But why you ask?

We are developing a mall for the community while preserving its roots (see what we did there?!).

Such a behemoth deserves to be treasured - the much-anticipated honour the tree that has been on site for centuries.

Under the guidance of Ruan van Rensburg, the MPD team, have been biologically testing soil samples, leaves and bark since mid-2025 while treating the tree to limit relocation shock. About 30% of the branches have been pruned in prep for the big move.

Today we are digging under the root ball in final prep for tomorrow’s big move.

A dream in the making for a long time coming, last week we soft launched www.jobsforgood.co.za

Still in its early stages, the platform connects local job seekers with retailers opening in our upcoming developments.

Completely free to use, community members load their CVs, info and contact details to the mobile platform. Retailers looking for employees are then able to request access to the data and contact applicants that meet their employment needs.

The uniqueness lies in the ability to clean the data and provide only local residents information, thus driving our mantra of .

When signing off a signals more than just closing a deal…

It’s been 15 years in the making but Edendale Mall is FULLY LET.

This incredible asset in Pietermaritzburg, KZN, has put us through our paces over the past decade and a half...

First opened in September 2011 as Greater Edendale Mall, the centre was just over 31 000sqm and offered anchor, food, fashion and banking facilities to community members – but trade was slower than expected.

And the asset struggled.

Then COVID-19 hit.

And the asset struggled.

Then the hit.

And the asset burned. Literally.

But that was the turning point – a reworked layout reduced the GLA to 29656sqm. The tenant mix was improved, the lighting and bulkheads were lifted and the walkways were widened.

The centre was renamed Edendale Mall and a local designer was commissioned to redesign the logo.

Edendale Mall had never looked better, but the leasing team was patient.

Tenant mix and layouts were carefully selected to ensure we improved the original asset. A vacancy was worth waiting for the perfect tenant, even if it took a year or two… and it shows.

Now finally fully let, the mall is one of the best performing in the portfolio from both a turnover, footcount and entertainment perspective.

Today we are celebrating and more than just closing a deal...
