After more than 50 years, the City of Cape Town has unveiled a proposal to complete the Foreshore’s unfinished highways, with a new link bridge, outbound tunnel and neighbourhood.

The proposed bridge would connect the inbound freeway directly to Helen Suzman Boulevard, allowing traffic heading towards Green Point and Sea Point to bypass Buitengracht and the C*D. An outbound tunnel would provide a connection back to the N1 and N2, helping ease pressure on inner-city roads.

For Cape Town’s commercial sector, improved access could mean easier commutes, fewer delays for clients and deliveries, and stronger connections between the C*D and surrounding areas.
The broader project would also open up approximately 15 hectares of land for development, alongside new public spaces and a harbour-edge promenade. Over time, this could support further investment and create opportunities for businesses serving a growing Foreshore community.

The proposal still needs public consultation, detailed design and procurement before construction can begin. While the benefits will unfold over many years, it signals a significant investment in Cape Town’s accessibility and future growth.
