A northern WI gem... A few weeks ago we took a short drive down to the Fred Smith Wisconsin Concrete Park. I've driven past it dozens of times, but I'm so glad to have finally taken the time to stop and explore the park! At age 62, Fred Smith got inspired and started creating concrete sculptures to tell stories of the northwoods, and to create representations of other historical figures and landmarks from around the country and the world. He had his own style, and he made a lot of statues - over 200 stand there in the park, next to what use to be his home. Numerous plaques detail his words about his works. I was struck by the respect he clearly had for people and places, and his motivation to share his work with others. Swing by the Fred Smith Concrete park and spend an hour or so when you get the chance, you won't regret it!
