🔥 Week 2 of our Fall Home Maintenance Checklist: Heating System!

Have you turned the heat on yet? The worst time to find a furnace or boiler problem is 2 a.m. in January, when every HVAC company in Rhode Island is booked solid. This week's section of the Fall Home Maintenance Checklist helps you get ahead of it.

From the Heating System section of the checklist:
✅ Schedule a professional tune-up (book now, before the rush)
✅ Replace or clean your furnace filter, and check it every 1–3 months all winter
✅ Test your thermostat and swap its batteries
✅ Listen and sniff: unusual noises or odors are worth a call
✅ Make sure vents and radiators aren't blocked by furniture or rugs

📸 Quick tip: snap a photo of your filter size so you never buy the wrong one again.

We're kicking off our 9-week fall series by working through our Fall Home Maintenance Checklist one section at a time. First up is the top of your house. Clogged gutters are one of the most common causes of basement water we find during inspections, because water that can't drain spills over and pools against the foundation.

From the Roof & Gutters section of the checklist:
✅ Clean gutters and downspouts once most leaves have dropped
✅ Make sure downspouts carry water 4–6 feet away from the foundation
✅ From the ground (binoculars help!), look for loose, damaged or missing shingles
✅ Check flashing around the chimney and vents

🪜 Safety first: if your roof is steep or high, leave the climbing to a pro.
