I see this all the time. Contractors go into your attic to add recessed lights, repair or replace HVAC equipment, or do plumbing work and move insulation out of their way to do the work. Frequently the insulation isn’t put back into place. This is a drain on energy dollars as well as a problem for moisture and mold in your attic. Always look into your attic to ensure the insulation has been returned to its original position. With electrical there can be an issue with the housing for the lights. If they are IC rated (insulation contact rated) then the insulation can go over the housing. There will be “IC rated” somewhere on the housing if this is the case. Otherwise leave a gap so the insulation does not touch the housing. You should not have the large gaps pictured here.
