If the power stops, does your water stop too?

For many homes with a private well, an outage can also interrupt the pump. Island County’s windstorm guidance recommends conserving water during an outage and making backup plans for anything that depends on power.

Take five minutes before storm season to check:
• how to open the garage door manually
• flashlights, batteries, and charged power banks
• stored drinking water and a plan for the well pump
• safe backup heat and refrigerated medication needs
• refrigerator and freezer space you can keep closed

If you use a generator, Island County’s safety guidance says it belongs outdoors and at least 20 feet from windows, doors, and attached garages.
