Did you know some homeowners in Mercer County can actually get paid to replace part of their lawn?

A rebate program recently expanded to Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough, Pennington, and a few neighboring communities, offering up to $700 to swap sections of traditional grass for native plants. Besides supporting pollinators, native landscaping can help reduce stormwater runoff and often requires less maintenance once it's established.

Even if your town isn't included yet, it's the kind of idea I could see spreading to more communities over time. I always enjoy seeing creative programs like this that encourage people to think a little differently about their homes and neighborhoods.

You'd think that with more homes for sale, prices would start coming down. But that's actually not what's happening in Mercer County.

Compared to this time last year, the number of homes on the market is up about 13%, giving buyers more options and a little more breathing room. But even with that extra inventory, the median sale price still climbed 4.2% to $557,500. Closed sales were also up more than 12%, which tells us buyers are still out there making moves when the right home comes along.

The takeaway? Our market is becoming more balanced, not weaker. Buyers have more choices than they did a year ago, but demand is still strong enough to keep home values moving higher. If you'd like a little more context behind these numbers, I put together a quick Market in a Minute video that's linked below.

It's easy to forget why New Jersey is called the Garden State.

I came across a statewide guide this week highlighting farmers markets in every county across New Jersey, and it was a great reminder of just how much local agriculture is still part of everyday life here. Even in one of the country's most densely populated states, there are countless places to shop local, support family farms, and enjoy the best of the season.

Living in Mercer County, we're lucky to have some fantastic farmers markets right in our own backyard. Sometimes it's the simple traditions, like spending a Saturday morning wandering through a local market, that remind us why this is such a great place to call home.

With a major heat wave arriving just in time for the holiday weekend, staying cool is about to get a little more challenging.

One statistic surprised me: it takes 300% more electricity to cool a home when it's 95° outside than when it's 85°. That's one reason electric companies are warning that the increased demand could lead to scattered power outages.

A few simple things like closing the blinds during the hottest part of the day, checking your AC filter, and waiting until the evening to run the oven or laundry can help. Hopefully you and your family stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy a wonderful Fourth of July weekend.

One of the things I enjoy most about Mercer County is seeing creative ways communities bring people together, and Hamilton has come up with a fun one. In celebration of America's 250th anniversary, local restaurants and food businesses throughout Hamilton will be offering special menu items, trivia nights, and other experiences inspired by our nation's history all month long in July.

It's the kind of idea that feels simple but meaningful. It gives people a reason to try a new local spot, learn a little history, and support small businesses at the same time.

Sometimes community pride shows up in big ways, and sometimes it shows up through food, conversation, and neighbors gathering around a table. This feels like one of those moments.

I recently heard about a flower and gift shop in Hamilton called Ivy on Main. It started in a garage after two women decided to leave their corporate careers and pursue a dream of building something of their own.

What began as a small leap of faith has grown into a thriving business and community gathering place.

I always enjoy hearing stories like this because they remind me that so many of the places we enjoy in our community started with someone simply deciding to take a chance.
