Some partnerships are measured in years. Others are remembered through the stories they leave behind.
In the late 1970s, Tom Moore came to Tyler with a plan to open a sandwich shop. Dennis Darryl, former President of The Genecov Group, helped make that plan possible by giving Tom’s new business a place to call home in a Genecov property.
When Tom’s first Schlotzsky’s opened, Dennis was first in line. Tom framed the first dollar Dennis spent that day and kept it on his office wall for decades. As the business grew, so did the relationship between them. Proud of what they were building together, Tom made a point to hand-deliver his first check to Dennis—not because he had to, but because he wanted to.
Over the next few decades, Tom grew his Schlotzsky’s franchise across East Texas, opening multiple locations along the way. As Tom retires this year, he’s closing the chapter just as personally as it began—by hand-delivering his final check to Dennis.
That same belief in building lasting relationships continues to shape how we do business today, because shaping a community has always been about the people and partnerships behind it.
