HOT WEATHER CAN MAKE YOUR SMOKE ALARM TALK
Has your smoke alarm been going off more than usual during this stretch of extreme heat?
There’s a reason.
When temperatures and humidity change rapidly, moisture and condensation can develop inside a smoke alarm’s sensing chamber. Dust, HVAC particles and other debris can also contribute to nuisance alarms, especially in older alarms.
But never assume an alarm is a false alarm. When it sounds, check for fire and get everyone out if there is a fire or you’re unsure.
While you’re checking your alarms, take a minute to:
TEST IT — Press the test button to make sure it works.
CHECK THE DATE — Look on the back or side for the manufacturing date. If the alarm is 10 years old or older, replace it.
