Connecting new to old is an important skill for a design+build company in Northeast Atlanta because so much of the housing stock is from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Thankfully, the team at Light Box Homes has plenty of experience bringing older homes up to date while renovating or adding on to them.

The key is hiring framers who understand IRCC code and getting the work inspected by the local municipal government inspectors. As we warranty all of our work here at Light Box Homes, both of these systems work together to insure the house can endure many decades more without further modification.

Homeowners of older homes need to understand that after the first phase of a construction project -the demolition phase- the team might find dry-rotted or termite-eaten lumber that needs to be replaced to insure the finish product is safe to live in and enjoy.

That can blow up a budget, as no one can know that without opening up walls, but having a team with experience in old homes help keep surprises to a minimum because, well, we've seen it all before.

Got an older home you'd like to remodel? Light Box Homes is your best bet for an estimate that matches actual billing. Give us a call today!

Can you add square footage to an existing house that's from the 1950s?

Yup. We do it every day at Light Box Homes. In fact, we're doing one right now. Two, actually. In Tucker.

Check out this home remodeling project where we are adding a master bedroom suite to a cute-n-cuddly 1950s bungalow in North Decatur. In addition to the, uh...Addition, we've gutted the kitchen so we can replace any old or rotting wood, level the structure and bring it back to life with new flooring, cabinets, countertops and appliances: A brand new kitchen in addition to the brand new master ensuite.

Many ranch and bungalow homes in the Northeast Atlanta area were built as long ago as the 1940s, some even older. Does that mean they're too old to renovate or add on to?

Nope.

In fact, they're some of the best-built homes on the block! And with the right design+build team at the helm of your home renovation project, these venerable old homes can gain a new lease on life AND additional square footage that can be applied to enlarging a kitchen, adding or expanding a master bedroom suite, or increasing living or storage space.

With eleven years renovating and adding on to old homes in the Chamblee area, Light Box Homes can accurately assess your home's ability to 'bulk up,' which allows you to keep the home (and mortgage) that you already have instead of selling and slogging through the real estate market.

But it's important to know if your lot conditions are ideal for creating an addition, so give us a call and let's chat

Can you smell the new lumber here waiting for our framing team to begin installing on an addition we're building for a client in North Decatur?

There are a ton of tiny bungalows in ZIP 30033 on BIG lots that desperately need an addition to make them suitable to a growing family, and that's exactly what we're doing here. And it doesn't cause us any stress that the home is from the 1950s. Modifying these old homes is our speciality here at Light Box.

The rear addition we are creating will allow for a larger and more comfortable new primary bedroom suite, while the full kitchen update will update their existing space to modern standards.

Check out these 'before' photos and stay tuned, because in just a couple months you're not going to believe your eyes when you see the 'after' photos.

It's only been a couple of weeks and the new foundation is already in, too, which might lead you to ask: How can we execute these full-home remodeling projects so swiftly?

I'll tell you: We have an in-house designer, and she works with our clients extensively in the beginning of the project to make sure ALL layout and finishes design choices are made prior to construction beginning. Nothing is left to chance.

That is how Light Box gets YOUR home renovation done RIGHT!
