🏡❄️ WINTER IS COMING! Is Your Home Ready? 🍂
Michigan winters can be beautiful, but freezing temperatures can be tough on your home! 🥶 Before the snow arrives, take a little time to prepare your property and help prevent costly repairs.
✅ Your Home Winterization Checklist 🏠
💧 Winterize Your Sprinkler System – Have your irrigation system professionally blown out to prevent frozen pipes and costly damage.
🚰 Protect Outdoor Faucets – Disconnect garden hoses, shut off indoor supply valves if available, and drain outdoor faucets.
🍂 Clean Your Gutters – Remove leaves and debris to help prevent ice dams and water damage.
🔥 Service Your Furnace – Replace the air filter and schedule maintenance to make sure your heating system is ready for the cold.
🪟 Seal Drafts – Check windows and doors for air leaks, replace worn weatherstripping, and seal gaps to keep warm air inside.
🏠 Inspect Your Roof – Look for damaged or missing shingles and address potential leaks before winter weather arrives.
🚿 Protect Your Pipes – Insulate exposed pipes in garages, crawl spaces, and other unheated areas. Know where your main water shutoff is located!
🌳 Prepare Your Yard – Trim vulnerable branches, store patio furniture, and drain and store garden hoses.
🧱 Check Your Foundation & Drainage – Make sure downspouts direct water away from your foundation and clear debris from drainage areas.
🧹 Clean Your Chimney & Fireplace – If you use a fireplace or wood-burning stove, have it inspected and cleaned as recommended.
🔋 Test Safety Devices – Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, replace batteries as needed, and keep an emergency kit handy.
🌡️ Keep Your Home Warm – Maintain adequate indoor heat, even when traveling. If you'll be away, consider asking someone to check on your home.
