Just got the keys? 🔑 Do these 6 things IMMEDIATELY 👇

1️⃣ Change all locks & toilet seats
You never know how many copies of the old keys are out there (previous owners, contractors, neighbors). New toilet seats are cheap and give you a fresh, clean start.

2️⃣ Deep clean BEFORE moving in
An empty house is so much easier to clean. Get inside cabinets, behind appliances, and the baseboards before boxes and furniture block everything.

3️⃣ Set up a security system
Even a few cameras and a smart doorbell can deter break-ins, and many insurers offer a discount for having one.

4️⃣ Flush your water heater
Sediment builds up over time, making it work harder and wear out sooner. Flushing it helps efficiency and lifespan, and it’s one less surprise repair later.

5️⃣ Apply for property tax exemptions
Many states and counties offer a homestead exemption that can lower your tax bill, but it usually isn’t automatic. Deadlines vary, so check with your county right away. In Pike County you have from October 1st - December 31st to file for your homestead exemption.

6️⃣ Locate your water shutoff & electric breakers
When a pipe bursts or a circuit trips, you don’t want to be searching with a flashlight. Find them now and label the breaker panel.
