Whew, it is a warm one out there! Homie here, and I've got to tell you, while I love sunbathing on a nice river log, this dry weather means we all need to be extra careful. When we don't get rain for a bit, the forest floor turns into a tinderbox.

Right now, a stray spark from a cigarette, a hot exhaust pipe, or an uncooled campfire can start a wildfire in a matter of seconds.

Let's look out for each other:

- Avoid burning trash or yard waste on windy, dry days.

- Dispose of cigarette butts safely (never toss them out the car window!).

- Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby if you're doing any outdoor work.

Let's keep Northern Michigan green until the next good rain comes along to splash in! Check today's fire danger rating before you head out!

Hey neighbors, Homey here! While sliding around the local riverbanks this week, I’ve spotted a few brand-new white-tailed deer fawns curled up in the tall grass.

If you stumble across one while hiking or in your backyard, your first instinct might be to help. But as your resident wildlife scout, my biggest piece of advice is: Leave it be! Here is what you need to know:

- Mom isn't far: Doe leave their fawns alone for hours at a time to look for food and avoid drawing predators to them.

- Built-in Camouflage: Fawns have virtually no scent and those white spots help them blend into the dappled sunlight. They are supposed to look abandoned—it’s their survival strategy!

- Look, don't touch: Human scent can attract predators or cause the mother stress.

If the fawn looks healthy and is quietly waiting, just snap a quick photo from a distance and keep moving. Mom will be back by dusk!

Traverse City, let's show up in a big way!

This Saturday, April 11th, Oakwood Proper Burgers is stepping up to help Tim Bergstrom of Bergstrom's Burgers with his medical treatment costs, and we'd love to see the whole town there.

Mark your calendars, bring your appetite, and let's help them smash this goal for a vital member of our TC community!

Homey’s Field Notes: The First Bloom 🌸

Before the trees even have leaves, the forest floor in Northern Michigan is waking up! Homey is out spotting Spring Ephemerals, those tiny, brave wildflowers like Trillium and Bloodroot that only last for a few weeks.

Homey’s Tip: If you’re out hiking the local trails this weekend, stay on the path! These flowers are fragile and provide the very first food for our local pollinators.

Pro-Tip for Buyers: Looking for a wooded lot? This is the best time of year to see the true topography of a property before the "green wall" of summer hides the views!

Don't leave your move to an "average" agent. According to 2025 NAR statistics, HomeWaters agents outperform the field:

âś… 22 Sides of Business (vs. the 10-side average)
âś… $6.75M in Sales (vs. the $2.5M average)
âś… 17.7 Years in Business (vs. the 11-year average)

More experience. More sales. More success for our clients. That’s the HomeWaters difference.

Homey’s Field Notes: The Great Thaw 🧊

In the Northern Lower Peninsula, "Spring" is a verb! We are officially on Ice-Out Watch. As the ice begins to pull away from the shorelines of our favorite inland lakes, Homey has a few reminders:

Piers & Docks: Now is the time to schedule your dock installations! The early bird gets the best spot on the water.

Shoreline Protection: High water levels during the thaw can cause erosion. If you’re a waterfront owner, check your rip-rap and natural barriers now.

Safety First: The ice is "honeycombed" and unstable. Keep the pups and kiddos back from the shelf until the water is clear!

Watching the blue return to the horizon is our favorite part of the 20-year tradition here at HomeWaters.
