No two communities face family homelessness in exactly the same way.

Across our national network, each Family Promise site creates solutions based off the needs of families in their communities. That local expertise is one of our greatest strengths! ⭐️

Family homelessness exists all across the country. But it often goes unseen. It’s an invisible crisis.

More than 1.5 million children experienced homelessness during the 2023-24 school year. Yet most were not living on the streets or in shelters. They were staying in motels or doubled up with others, forms of homelessness that can remain largely invisible to the public.

These children and families deserve to be top of mind. That’s why local Family Promise sites work every day to support families facing homelessness and housing instability in communities across the country.

This week, we’re celebrating that work.

Happy ! ⭐️

“Homelessness can happen to anyone.”

This week, we’ve heard from families whose experiences challenge assumptions about homelessness and show how quickly a housing crisis can happen.

Their stories also show why compassion matters. We may not always know when a family is struggling or how they got there.

When we see the full picture, we can better understand family homelessness and how our communities can respond.

Today is ! 💙

There are so many ways to make a difference for families facing homelessness. For longtime Family Promise volunteers Dave and Melissa, one of those ways was through their donor-advised fund (DAF).

When their community faced an urgent need for shelter, Dave and Melissa used their DAF to help purchase a house for Family Promise, providing families with a safe place to stay together and work toward stability. 🏡

Their story is a great example of how people can find the way of giving that works for them and turn their generosity into meaningful support for families.

To understand family homelessness, we need to listen to families who have experienced it.

Their stories show how quickly an unexpected crisis or several challenges at once can put a family’s housing at risk, even when parents are working and doing everything they can to stay afloat.

And children are especially vulnerable when that stability is threatened. They face the highest risk of eviction of any age group, with the risk highest before they even start school.

Today we’re making space for families to share what they wish more people understood about homelessness.

“You could’ve met someone experiencing homelessness today and never have known.”

Family homelessness is an invisible crisis. A family can be experiencing homelessness without their coworkers, classmates, neighbors, or friends ever knowing.

In fact, more than 1.5 million school-age children experience homelessness in America every year.

Invisible No More, a digital exhibit created by Family Promise of Los Angeles, highlights those experiences by sharing the stories of families who have faced homelessness.

This week, we’re sharing their stories and taking a closer look at a crisis that often goes unseen.
