SOMETIMES, YOU MAKE YOUR OWN LUCK.
I THINK YOU'LL APPRECIATE THIS STORY IF YOU HAVE A MOMENT.
One of the things I love about real estate is that you never know where your next opportunity will come from. Sometimes it's a referral, sometimes it's a phone call, and sometimes it's a complete stranger asking you a question while waiting for an elevator.
About a year ago, I was helping a fellow agent show a condo in Stamford when a lovely woman named Marianne approached me.
"Are you a Realtor?"
To this day, I'm not sure how she knew. Apparently, I was oozing "I'm a Realtor" energy. LOL.
We struck up a wonderful conversation. Marianne mentioned that she and her husband, Loren, were considering selling their condo.
"Not this year," she said. "But I promise I'll call you next year."
Now, anyone in real estate knows you don't exactly circle that date on your calendar. 😂
Over the following months, I occasionally reached out, but never heard back. Strange, considering how well we'd connected.
Fast forward almost exactly one year.
My phone rang. It was Marianne, calling from a different number!
True to her word, she was ready to sell and wanted me to interview for the listing. Another agent was also being considered.
I was thrilled she'd remembered me.
And then... silence. Again.
Had I really been ghosted by the sweetest woman in Stamford? Twice? 😂
Well, the universe had other plans.
A few weeks later, I was back in the SAME building showing another condo when suddenly I heard:
"Jeremy! How have you been?!"
It was Marianne!
And within minutes, we solved the mystery.
She had accidentally BLOCKED my phone number!
You see, I still have my New York area code. Queens represent! She'd assumed I was a telemarketer.
Here's the best part. She'd been trying to reach me, too!
All this time, we each thought the other wasn't responding. Technology was doing everything possible to keep us apart!
We had a great laugh, and that afternoon she invited me upstairs for an impromptu interview.
Long story short, Marianne and Loren entrusted me with selling their beautiful fountain view condo.
And it became one of my favorite transactions of my entire career.
Not because of the price. Not because of the commission. But because of the people.
The greatest rewards in this business aren't always measured in dollars. They're found in the relationships we build and the privilege of helping genuinely wonderful people.
What were the odds I'd be in that same building at just the right moment, not once but twice?
Some call it luck.
I believe you make your own luck by showing up, being genuine, and never underestimating the power of a simple conversation.
Thank you, Marianne and Loren, for reminding me why I love what I do. ❤️
And Marianne, I'm keeping my Queens phone number! 😂
P.S. Marianne sent me the sweetest text after closing. It absolutely made my year!
