Most people can’t solve this riddle. Most homeowners are living it.

A farmer has to get a fox, a chicken, and a bag of feed across a river, and his boat holds him plus two. Leave the fox alone with the chicken, or the chicken alone with the feed, and something gets eaten.

Moving is the same puzzle: your time, your money, and your energy all have to make it across. Handle them alone, and one usually eats another. The right plan, in the right order, gets everything there.

Drop your answer to the riddle below, and I’ll share the solution tomorrow. And if you’re thinking about a move here in Cobb County, comment MAP, and I’ll send you your Move Map.

A few things my zinnias have taught me this fall.

It’s almost November here in Cobb County, and they’re still blooming, because I keep cutting. Once a flower is spent, the plant starts pouring its energy into making seeds, and it slows down on new blooms. Cut the spent flower off, and the plant goes right back to making more flowers.

Our lives work the same way. Some things bloomed beautifully in a past season: a commitment, a routine, a role, maybe even a house. They were good. But they’re done blooming, or they’re no longer where your strength belongs, and they’re still taking your time, your money, or your energy.

Letting them go isn’t a loss. It’s how you tell your life where to grow next.

What’s growing for you right now? And what no longer needs your energy?

Our house is peaceful because everyone has a place to go. My husband has his office. I have mine. Our son has the basement. We each go get our things done, find a little quiet, and then come back together.

That’s what a house that works really gives you: breathing room and a place to gather. When you have both, being together feels easy.

If someone’s taking work calls from the laundry room, or you’re already wondering where everyone will sleep this holiday, your house may be short on one of the two.

What does your family need room for?

If you can research everything yourself, do you still need an agent?

The moment a conversation shifts is usually where a deal is won or lost. And that’s where you need a human.

More people are researching their home sale with AI: pricing, comps, even negotiation tactics. Honestly, I love that. I use AI every day.

That’s why I started Coffee with Claude. On my coffee runs, I sit down with my AI and ask it the questions homeowners are asking. This week, I asked it that exact question.

Here’s how we work together. Claude is the technology. It’s fast with research and numbers, and we dig into the data together. But it can’t see what’s really happening on the other side of the table. And it can’t sit with you while you make one of the biggest decisions of your life.

That’s where I come in. I read the room: what the other side is afraid of, what matters to them more than the last dollar, when to push and when to wait. And I walk with you through your side of it too: the questions, the second-guessing, the moment you need someone to help you see clearly. That takes discernment, and it’s what I bring.

And a shout-out to the agents who do this well, on both sides of the table. The ones who listen before they talk, who know when to push and when to wait, and who carry families through some of the biggest decisions of their lives. AI makes our research faster. It will never replace what you bring.

Use the tools. And when it’s time to make the decision, you don’t have to make it alone.

What’s something you’ve asked AI about your home?

I pulled into the driveway to find bikes flipped upside down all over the yard. A crew of boys was holding plastic bottles against the spinning tires, and the whole street sounded like a racetrack.

Grass torn up. Bottles everywhere. Noise I could hear with the car windows up.

And I sat there grinning. I tell people all the time: whenever you make a major life decision, you’re choosing your problems.

When we moved here, we chose these.

I choose them all day long, every day.

Full disclosure: dinner at our house is not always homemade. But stirring the pot? That I’m great at.

Some people stir the pot to bring drama and negative energy. I don’t have time for that.

The kind of stirring I love brings things to life. New ideas. Creative solutions. Growth nobody saw coming. My husband jokes that my theme song is “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” and honestly, he’s right.

Most people have no idea how much more is possible with their life, their timing, and their next season. They’ve only been shown one way, so that’s the only way they can picture.

I love sitting down with someone and finding the options nobody showed them.

Any fellow pot stirrers out there? What are you stirring up this season?

“Should we move?” It sounds like a real estate question. It almost never is. It’s a life question.

Underneath it, something has usually changed. The kids may be older. Or a parent needs to be closer. Or the house you’re living in feels smaller every month. And you’re tired of working around the parts of your home that don’t work for you anymore. Your life moved on, but the house didn’t.

That’s why it’s so hard to know where to start. There are so many moving pieces: the house, the timing, the money, where you’d go next. And none of them make sense until you know what you’re moving toward.

So that’s where I start: with what’s changed. Once we name it, the practical steps fall into an order that makes sense.

You don’t have to have it figured out to start the conversation.

What’s changed for you?

Maybe you’ve been there before: you called someone with a question and walked away with a listing appointment. So now you look at homes late at night, run the numbers in your head, and don’t call anyone.

That hesitation isn’t a problem. It’s protecting something. You want to make this decision in your own time, for your own reasons.

That’s how I’d want it too. My first question is never what your house is worth. It’s what’s changed, and what you’d want the next season to hold. And sometimes, once we talk it through, the right move is to stay put for now. If that’s the case, I’ll tell you.

You won’t be rushed.

What do you wish you could ask without it turning into a sales pitch?

One of my top five favorite stories.

A couple I worked with was living in Atlanta, mostly in an apartment, and looking for a home with charm: brick, built before the 1940s, a sunroom, a fireplace, somewhere to host Christmas. We spent eleven months and dozens of showings looking. Nothing fit.

Then the dream they'd been afraid to say out loud finally got named: they wanted to live overseas. Once that was on the table, everything shifted. Within two weeks we found a duplex, under budget, built in the 1940s, with the sunroom and fireplace on their side.

They closed in November. Two days later, the overseas job came through. They renovated, hosted Christmas, and moved abroad, and they're still living overseas today.

The dream was too small. When the vision comes first, the house gets so much easier to find.

When Ace and I pull up to the drive-thru, they already know my order. Then comes the real question: “Is he with you today?”

Of course he is. My assistant takes his coffee runs very seriously.

It’s such a small thing, but there’s something about being known, even for a coffee order, that makes the day start a little better.
