🇩🇪 Have you ever wondered why Walhalla is called... Walhalla?

With Oktoberfest kicking off this weekend, the timing seemed pretty perfect for a little local history lesson.

Because here's the fun part - Walhalla didn't just adopt a German festival. Walhalla was actually founded as a German settlement.

In 1848, a group of German immigrants in Charleston organized the German Colonization Society. On Christmas Eve 1849, they purchased nearly 18,000 acres in the Upstate and began planning a new community.

They named it Walhalla, inspired by Valhalla from Norse and Germanic mythology and long described locally as the “Garden of the Gods.”

They planned the streets. Divided the town into lots and farms. Built a German community.

And more than 175 years later?

We're still celebrating those roots.

🍺 Walhalla's Oktoberfest tradition began in 1979, and the 47th Oktoberfest is happening October 16–18, 2026 at Sertoma Field.

So yes... there's bratwurst, polka music, rides, dancing and b**r.

But there's also a pretty great story behind all of it. 💙

Some people build businesses... others build something that feels like family. 😊

Eleven years ago, Robert had a vision for Lake Life Realty. Not just another real estate company, but a place where people mattered, relationships came first, and doing business the right way would always mean more than simply doing business!

What he built became so much more.

He built a place where laughter is part of the workday. Where individuality is celebrated. Where people are encouraged to be themselves. Where the door is always open, the coffee is usually brewing, and there's always someone in your corner.

And at the heart of it all is our Captain. ⚓

Robert isn't the kind of leader who needs the spotlight - he's the kind who makes sure everyone else has a chance to shine.

He's believed in us, encouraged us, stood beside us through the hard days, and celebrated the good ones right along with us.

And somewhere along the way, what started as a little independent real estate company became something we're all incredibly proud to call ours!

Robert, you may be the Captain, but you're also the heart of this Crew.

Thank you for taking a chance on a dream eleven years ago. Thank you for believing in the people who came along for the ride. And most of all, thank you for reminding us that success isn't just measured in sales - but in the lives we touch and the relationships we build along the way.

After five decades of helping families, guiding transactions, and making dreams of homeownership a reality, our friend Randy Newton has officially traded closing tables for a well deserved retirement! 🎉

Over the years Randy and his wonderful daughter, Kimberly, have helped countless Lake Life Realty clients navigate one of life's biggest milestones. From first-time homebuyers to longtime homeowners, they've been a trusted part of so many journeys.

Randy, thank you for your friendship, your professionalism, and the many years you've spent taking such good care of our clients. You've certainly earned a little time to relax! 😉

And Kimberly - we're excited for this next chapter and look forward to many more years of working together!

It's National Farmers Day! 🍅🫐🍏 We are beyond blessed that our little corner of the world is filled with so much agriculture - and so many amazing farms!

Last month some of our Crew attended the Fall Oconee Farm Crawl and everyone is still talking about it. ☺️ Being able to see the hard work these farmers - and their families - put into feeding our community was incredible.

We can't thank them enough for their commitment to their farms, and our communities! 💙
