How far can water travel from a leaking toilet?

In this Sarasota home, farther than the bathroom it started in — into the hallway, living and dining area, two bedrooms, a closet and a second bathroom.

What changed the scope was the floor assembly. Carpet and padding sat over small-format tile with a lot of grout joints, and wet carpet holds moisture against the grout while it blocks evaporation from the assembly below. 285 square feet of carpet and padding came out so the tile underneath could be cleaned, treated and dried directly.

Documented Protimeter readings on the walls began in the 50–70 range. By day four the same instrument read 7 on the monitored structural materials, and the drying log reported the structure dry.
