Big changes could be coming to San Francisco public schools!

SFUSD’s Board of Education has voted 5–2 to move toward a neighborhood-based elementary school enrollment system, potentially replacing the city’s longstanding lottery system.

If given final approval, the new system would take effect in the 2028–29 school year, giving families greater priority at schools closer to home.

School boundaries and assignment details are still being worked out, but this could have major implications for SF families and future homebuyers.
