Don’t forget! Today is election day. At the voting center where I’m volunteering even the kids get to cast a vote. Whether it’s for Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck or if it’s for the San Francisco 49ers or the Seattle Seahawks (What the heck?) they get a sense of the voting process, that it’s our civic duty, and a right that we all have as Americans.

🇺🇸 Democracy in Action… and I Got a Front-Row Seat! 🇺🇸

Today was my first day volunteering at the Placer County Election Center in Roseville, and WOW… what a learning experience!

Who knew there was so much to learn about voting equipment, procedures, ballot processing, and who does what?! 🙋‍♀️ Let’s just say my brain got quite the workout! Although we completed a 7-hour training a few weeks ago, we all needed front-line, hands-on experience. Grateful for the seasoned volunteers especially Ann who as a retired teacher patiently walked us through each form and record with meticulous detail and answered all of our questions until we were confident. Especially appreciative of Colleen who worked with me to get the ballot printers set-up and configurated before our first voter! ✅

And here’s what really made my day…

🗳️ More than 140 voters came through our doors after we opened at 8 AM until the end of my shift at 11:30 AM (no kidding, we started at 6 this morning and I never appreciated a Starbucks Grande drip more that this morning). People eager to have their ballots scanned and counted as soon as possible. Seeing that level of civic engagement was incredibly encouraging!

A HUGE shoutout to my dear friend Christie Borchin instachristieb who took on the monumental task of organizing our entire volunteer crew for the 12-days leading up to the election! Christie, your dedication, leadership, and commitment to our community are inspiring. I’m so proud to call you my friend! ❤️

Today reminded me that democracy isn’t just about casting a ballot. It’s about the people behind the scenes who help make the process work.

🗳️ And proud to do my small part in the democratic process!

The list of people who know the real version of you is short.

Your barista knows your coffee order.
Your bartender knows what kind of week it has been.
Your hairdresser knows the thing you have not said out loud to anyone else.
And somewhere around month two of a house search, your agent quietly joins that list.

I end up knowing which street you drive down on purpose on the way home, which compromise you are pretending you are fine with, and the number that makes your stomach drop. That is not oversharing. Did anyone else in the Roseville area hear that thunder? ⛈️ Mother Nature apparently decided I needed a little kick in the butt! 😂

The dark mornings have made sleeping in awfully tempting. But hearing the thunder, followed by the rain, got me thinking about what I might be missing outside—even if it meant getting a little wet.

So Bodie and I headed out for a run through Maidu Park, and THIS spectacular sunrise was our reward. 🌅🐾 Sometimes getting out the door really is the hardest part.

Anyone else needing a little push to trade the cozy covers for a little adventure? 💛

How many great ideas have we put on hold because the timing wasn’t right, the details weren’t quite finished, or all the planets hadn’t perfectly aligned? 🪐

Here’s a little reminder: Progress beats perfection. Every. Single. Time.

Start the project. Take the leap. Make the call. Chase that crazy idea! You can fine-tune things along the way. After all, even the best GPS recalculates when we take a wrong turn! 🚗💨

Life isn’t waiting for perfect. Neither should you.

So amazing to see JOSH GROBAN at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas with my most favorite party person on the entire planet, Darlene Richert. I love that we float these crazy ideas around and somehow it always comes together (usually through Darlene’s many connection’s, Marriott points, AMEX spiffs, etc. I so appreciate her!) A whirlwind 24-hour trip but we packed so much fun into every minute. Not going to lie, my head is aching this morning waiting to board the plane back to Sacramento.
