A group of New York firefighters intervened after witnessing a 60-year-old woman being assaulted directly outside their Brooklyn fire station.
The incident happened on Hancock Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant at around 5 p.m. on August 26.
Surveillance footage showed the woman walking along the sidewalk when a man riding a bicycle swerved toward her and punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground.
The cyclist then rode away from the scene.
Four FDNY firefighters immediately pursued him, following him around a corner before catching up and restraining him on the ground.
Other firefighters remained with the woman and checked on her condition.
The firefighters held the suspect until NYPD officers arrived and took him into custody.
Police identified the man as 53-year-old Daniel Biggs.
According to police, Biggs also punched a 29-year-old firefighter in the eye while being restrained, causing bruising and swelling.
The woman suffered a cut to her mouth but declined medical treatment at the scene.
Police said the woman and the alleged attacker did not know each other, and the motive for the assault remained unclear.
Local residents later praised the firefighters for their quick response and for assisting the victim until police arrived.
