Market Pulse!

Don’t despair. A little history gives it perspective.

In September, Shasta County’s unemployment rate was 5.2%, compared with 4.0% in San Francisco and 4.0% nationally. All three figures are measured on the same, non-seasonally adjusted basis.

That 1.2-point gap isn’t a sudden shift. Over the past two years, Shasta’s rate has typically run about 1.1 points above the U.S. and 1.4 points above San Francisco.

National layoff headlines deserve attention, but they don’t tell the whole story of our local market. For buyers, sellers, and investors, the better question is how local jobs, household demand, and financing conditions are changing together.
