We love our Tidy Team who give their time and energy for families in our program with huge smiles on their faces. By volunteering their time to clean and organize our emergency shelter units, they are making sure families are welcomed into a dignified space where they can grow and work towards a path forward. We're so thankful for our Tidy Team's hard work prepping emergency shelter units for local children and their families experiencing homelessness. 🫶

If you have a group interested in lending their time and skills in 2027, check out our Volunteer page for more info on ways you can get involved! Questions? Contact 📧[email protected]

✨MEET THE TEAM: Board Highlight✨ Our staff and board are the people behind the passion — working in partnership with local children and their families towards a Wake County community free of homelessness, with families thriving together. Get to know a bit more about our dream team! This week, meet Board Member, Marcella Cox👏 Thank you for all the work that you do, and the care and commitment you bring every day to local families.

More than 200,000 Wake County residents rely on Medicaid for healthcare and nearly a third of them are children. Yet the continuation of this critical, often life-saving, care is at risk because of changes in Medicaid eligibility that have gone into effect. These changes put the most vulnerable in our community at risk of losing coverage at a time when the cost of daily living is on the rise and hourly wages remain stagnant. Loss of access to basic and preventative care leads to worsened health outcomes and destabilizes families who are already struggling. Choosing between treating pressing health concerns or keeping a roof over the heads of their children, is never a choice parents should have to make.

Families Together team members are trained and keeping abreast of the complex changes to Medicaid. We provide vital healthcare navigation support to help families who are eligible retain their Medicaid coverage. Access to affordable healthcare makes a tremendous difference when a family is experiencing housing insecurity (check out our 2nd What Comes Next? video to hear how) and partnering with families to make sure they're connected to the healthcare services they need is more important than ever.

Will you make a gift today to support the wrap-around services, healthcare navigation and other vital supports we provide to help create a foundation of stability for local children and their families as they work towards brighter futures?

Last week, Vaco employees came out to our Athens emergency shelter units to create a dignified space that welcomes families when they arrive. Vaco employees' hard work completely rejuvenated our Athens units and gave them that shine that'll bring smiles to families' faces when they arrive. They spruced up the outside of the units with landscaping work and beautified the inside by cleaning and adding a fresh coat of paint. Thank you so much, Vaco by Highspring, for all your hard work and making a difference for families entering shelter and beginning their journeys to stable home!

Without access to safe shelter and proper healthcare, Ms. G and her family were struggling to find solid ground. Her grandhildren were not able to attend school without updated vaccines and Ms. G's health steadily declined as all 5 members crowded together in one small hotel room. When her family found shelter at Families Together, they were finally able to connect to the comprehensive healthcare services they needed with the guidance of our Healthcare Engagement Specialist. Now, the kids are back in school, Ms. G received her long-needed surgery, and her son found stable employment.

When families have quality, affordable healthcare, their foundation becomes stronger and allows them to move with more security towards bright futures. Will you make a gift today and help more local families, like Ms. G's, access the resources they need to begin building what comes next?

Our afterschool program recently had a fun excursion to get up close and personal with science and nature at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Kids in our program were eager to learn and joyfully explored all the intriguing exhibits. Activities like this help children in our program build confidence as they explore their interests and creates fun experiences as their family works towards stable housing.

Help support more engaging and educational enrichment activities for children in our program by making a donation today at the link below or in our bio!

We'd like to give a huge thank you to First Citizens Bank employees who came out to our donations pantry last week to make a positive difference for local families. They worked together to create welcome baskets, organize donations, and take inventory so that new families entering our program can be greeted with the essential items they need to get started on their journey to stability. A clean and neat pantry also means Mentor Advocates can quickly grab whatever families may be needing, spending more time partnering with families to build long-lasting security and less time searching through the pantry for items. At the end of all their hard work, our First Citizens Bank volunteers also got to play a round of our Stack The Odds game!
