Most buyers look at the kitchen, bathrooms, floors, and backyard.

But one of the most important areas of the house is above your head: the attic.

The attic can reveal signs that are easy to miss during a normal showing, including roof leaks, moisture, damaged wood, pests, insulation issues, electrical wiring, air ducts, and possible openings where water or light may be getting in.

It is not the prettiest part of the house, but it can tell you a lot about how the home has been maintained.

When you are buying a home, do not just fall in love with what looks good. Pay attention to what protects the house behind the walls, under the floors, and above the ceiling.

A beautiful home is great. A well-maintained home is even better.
