Continuing with our "Meet the CAHEC Board: Why We Serve" campaign, we're excited to introduce you to our next Board member: Anne Conner, President of Public Finance & Community Investment for TowneBank.

Why was it important for you to join the CAHEC Board, and what does serving on the Board mean to you? "I joined the CAHEC board because I believe deeply in its mission to provide affordable housing in the communities it serves. And its non-profit status means that every dollar of profit generated by CAHEC’s investments is funneled right back into more affordable housing! Serving on the board has been hugely beneficial for me…the education, the professionalism of the staff, the camaraderie with my fellow board members, gaining an in-depth knowledge of the exciting new property management and development lines of business, all of this has made my service on the board truly rewarding."

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about affordable housing or the communities CAHEC serves? "I wish more people were aware of who actually lives in affordable housing. Our residents are hard-working people who support our economy and help our communities prosper…the delivery drivers, hospitality workers, young teachers/firefighters/police officers and others just beginning their careers, healthcare workers, and many more. In fact, I helped my son to secure an affordable apartment when he was just beginning his career as a young chef just out of culinary school! And our senior communities provide a wonderful way of life in for those in their golden years, providing affordable living arrangements without having to worry about meeting their monthly financial obligations on a fixed income."

We’re excited to share the successful closing of Overland Place: a new 48-unit affordable housing community serving families in Greensboro, NC. This thoughtfully planned development will feature a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, along with amenities such as a fitness room, multipurpose/computer center, playground, gazebo, picnic and grilling area, and energy-efficient features.
