Let’s talk about the house payment—and the expenses that come with it. 🏡💰

When you’re deciding what you’re comfortable spending on a home, there’s more to consider than the price tag.

Here’s what to look at:

🏡 Principal + interest
The part of your payment that goes toward your loan balance and the cost of borrowing.

📋 Property taxes + homeowners insurance
These are often included in your monthly mortgage payment through escrow. Both can change over time, so ask what numbers were used in your estimate.

🌪️ Insurance deductibles
Especially here in Oklahoma, pay attention to the wind and hail deductible. Ask your insurance agent what you’d pay out of pocket if you needed a new roof after a storm.

🔧 Maintenance + repairs
Even a home in great condition will need upkeep. Leave some room in your budget for the things that eventually need fixing or replacing.

💡 Utilities + other expenses
Electricity, water, gas/propane, HOA dues if applicable and the upkeep that comes with extra acreage, a well, or a septic system.
