There’s something fun about learning the history behind the places we enjoy today.

Long before Twin Lakes became a favorite spot for boating, fishing, swimming, and summer days on the water, people were already coming here to slow down and enjoy lake life.

Originally known as Fish Lake, Twin Lakes became a popular vacation destination in the early 1900s. Visitors arrived by train or horse-drawn wagon, steam-powered boats carried people across the lake, and resorts, cabins, dance halls, and boat parades made this a pretty lively summer destination.

A lot has changed since then, but I love that the reason people come here really hasn’t.

It’s still about early mornings on the water, afternoons spent fishing or swimming, family boat days, and those beautiful North Idaho sunsets. ☀️

Some places just have a way of holding onto what made them special in the first place, and I think Twin Lakes is definitely one of them.

Okay… maybe this is controversial…
But open shelving in kitchens is not for everyone. 😅
It looks beautiful in photos. But in real life? You either have to keep everything perfectly organized 24/7… or suddenly everyone can see your random coffee mugs, snack bins, and mismatched plates.
As someone who loves homes that feel warm and lived in, I think functionality matters just as much as style.

One of my favorite things about North Idaho’s smaller towns is seeing new businesses become part of the community so quickly. ☕️

River Street Coffee opened in Mullan in late 2023, and it’s already become a familiar stop for locals, commuters, early-morning workers, and people traveling through the Silver Valley.

And there’s a little more to it than your morning coffee! Along with espresso and energy drinks, you’ll find scratch-made baked goods and hearty favorites like homemade biscuits and gravy. They even have a signature “Miner’s Pie”—a fun nod to the mining history that’s such a big part of Mullan and the Silver Valley.

I love highlighting places like this because local businesses really do add so much personality to our communities. They become part of our morning routines, weekend stops, and those everyday conversations that make a small town feel like home.
