We’d like to take this opportunity to share some important reminders about preventing electrical fires that can help protect you, your neighbors, and our community year-round:
*Use surge protectors and never overload outlets. Don’t string surge protectors together or use outlet expanders.
*Limit your use of extension cords and don’t string extension cords together. Replace worn or old cords right away. Avoid putting cords where they can be damaged or pinched like under a rug.
*Unplug small appliances when not in use.
*Use light bulbs that match the recommended wattage on the lamp or light fixture. And keep anything that can burn away from lamps, light fixtures and bulbs.
*Keep flammable items at least 3 feet away from heat sources.
*Avoid charging devices on soft surfaces like beds or under clothing, as batteries can overheat.
*Clean out the lint trap in your dryer after every load.
