𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄? Here's a piece of 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 history:

In 1866, Dr. John Milton Hawks, a Union Army surgeon, led freed slaves to settle land along the Halifax River in what is now Port Orange.

He first named the town Orange Port in February 1867, then renamed it Port Orange just two months later because another U.S. town already had that name.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄? Here's a piece of 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 history:

In 1854, when Volusia County split off from Orange County, the little St. Johns River steamboat port of Enterprise, not DeLand, was named the county's very first seat.

That same year, steamboat captain Jacob Brock opened his Brock House hotel on the riverfront there, turning Enterprise into a bustling tourist stop. It held the title until the county seat finally moved to DeLand in 1887.
