So we took off last weekend and went up into the pines off Campwood Road, just past Chino Valley. It’s maybe 2 hours and 20 minutes from North Phoenix, give or take. So we were supposed to stay 2 nights, but there was a storm coming.
So we only got one, and it was drizzling on and off, so I kept looking at the sky like, how long is this going to last? But it stayed nice for us. It was our 1st time out with the trailer, and a few others just did their tents.
So once you get up there, the trees get taller, it cools off, the grass is all gold. kind of makes you forget you’re in Arizona. We went up for squirrel season, and the season opens at the beginning of October. Yes, we do eat them.
It was just one night though, so we just mostly hung around camp and we only got one. So we had a big fire at night and my nephew made chili, my other nephew played music. And then when the stars came out, it’s hard to believe.
And my son actually took these pictures which is better than I could do. Honestly, my favorite part was just opening the trailer door in the morning, with no phone, nothing to do. Just trees and cold air.
I did was take some pictures of the beauty. On the way out, we saw some deer and a few turkeys, too. If you’ve ever thought about living a couple hours from this kind of country, I’d love to talk to you.
