Florida Gulf Coast friends — if you’ve never been through a hurricane before, or if you have and just need a little reminder, now is the time to get prepared.
Don’t wait until the shelves are empty, the gas stations are backed up, and everybody is in a full-blown Walmart panic.
For the first 72 hours, make sure you have the essentials:
water, nonperishable food, prescription meds, flashlights, batteries, phone chargers, power banks, cash, pet supplies, and anything needed for babies, elderly family members, or anyone with medical needs.
And please don’t forget your important documents:
ID, insurance info, medical information, emergency contacts, bank info, proof of residence, vaccination records, and photos of your home and valuables.
Keep originals in a waterproof bag and save digital copies on your phone or in the cloud if you can.
A few things to do before the storm gets here:
* Fill up your gas tank
* Charge every device
* Bring in or secure outdoor furniture and anything loose outside
* Fill tubs and containers with water
* Set your fridge and freezer to the coldest setting
* Know your evacuation zone
And most importantly, if they say evacuate, go.
No second guessing it.
Living on the Florida Gulf Coast, we know storm season is no joke. The more prepared you are now, the less stressed you’ll be later.
Save this post now so you’re not scrambling when it matters. Stay safe, y’all.
