“Twenty-five years later, that love has only grown.” 🧡
For Shelly Douglas, that love began with City Rescue Mission more than 25 years ago, when she attended the very first Hearts of Hope luncheon in 1999. What she experienced that day inspired her to get involved, and she's been part of the Mission family ever since.
"In 2001 I began volunteering, and I fell in love with the Mission and its people.”
Today, Shelly serves on City Rescue Mission's Board of Directors and is Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Theris.ai.
For Shelly, one of the most meaningful parts of serving on the board is seeing how decisions made around a table translate into real support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
"My favorite part is seeing lives change up close. Every time I walk through the doors, I feel the Holy Spirit at work."
She's especially proud that as City Rescue Mission has grown, its commitment to serving others with love, dignity and hope has remained.
"It's still a place of love and hope, where every person who comes through the door is seen, valued and welcomed. It has been a privilege to help steward that."
And what does Shelly hope our community understands about the work happening here?
"When you give, volunteer or pray for this work, you become part of something God is doing in our city every single day."
Thank you, Shelly, for your years of service, your leadership and your heart for the individuals and families we serve. We're grateful you're part of the City Rescue Mission family!
Hope Lives Here.
