My family’s roots in Summerfield run deep. The Scarlettes and the Angels called this town home for generations, and my grandmother’s aunt, Gladys, spent years as something of Summerfield’s unofficial historian, keeping its stories alive for everyone who came after.

My great-grandmother grew up on Debo Road, and for years most of the land along that road belonged to our family. My great-grandparents built a home there, and later my grandparents did too. That stretch of road is where nearly all of my most cherished childhood memories were made.

Summerfield has grown and changed since then, but its heart hasn’t. There are still wooded lots and rolling fields along the drive home, neighbors still gather every spring for the Founders’ Day parade, and history here isn’t just written down. You can still feel it.

In Oak Ridge/Summerfield, homes sold 14% more often and spent 11 fewer days on the market than last year. In Stokesdale, sales slowed, but the average price still jumped 8.4%.
