As you are cleaning up and moving around your lawns, be mindful: 🐍 ⚠️

Snakes often seem more active after storms and heavy rain due to displacement, hunting opportunities, and environmental changes:

• Flooded Burrows: Heavy downpours fill underground burrows, holes, and ground-level shelters with water, forcing snakes to leave in search of higher, drier ground.

• Prey Movement: Rain draws out small animals like frogs, toads, and worms, which attract snakes hunting for an easy meal.

• Basking After the Storm: Once the rain stops and the sun comes out, snakes move into the open—such as on warm rocks, paths, or asphalt—to warm their cold-blooded (ectothermic) bodies.

• Shedding Help: The lingering humidity and wet grass help soften a snake's old skin, making it easier to slough off during a shed.

• Proximity to Homes: As water floods fields and natural habitats, displaced snakes frequently migrate toward human structures, yards, porches, and garages looking for dry shelter.
