As longtime champions of Newark’s cultural landscape, Hanini Group is thrilled to support the Newark Arts Council Ball—a milestone 25th-anniversary celebration where art, fashion, music, and our incredible community collide.

Have you noticed how much Downtown Newark is changing after 5:00 PM?

For a long time, our downtown was primarily a 9-to-5 commuter hub. But as workplace patterns shift, the future of our commercial real estate isn't just about building from the ground up—it’s about reimagining the historic office buildings we already have.

Office-to-residential conversions are one of the most vital adaptive reuse strategies happening today. Turning an old office building into a residential community requires a deep understanding of the neighborhood and serious structural expertise, but Newark is already leading the way.

Iconic transformations like the Art Deco Eleven80 (formerly the Raymond Commerce Building) and the historic New Jersey Bell Headquarters (now Walker House) paved the way. The conversion of the Kislak Building at 579 Broad Street is another prime example of taking underutilized commercial space and turning it into homes that meet Newark's growing demand.

At Hanini Group, we love adaptive reuse because it allows us to honor our city's architectural history while actively designing its future. Buildings that once only supported daytime commerce are now full-time homes for our community.
