Real and rendered: The library at The Juniper.

“There’s always a moment where drawings stop being abstract and start being real,” says Santulan Architects’ Harsh Parikh. “When the project is complete, you notice how people move through the space, where they pause, what they respond to. It’s rewarding — less about ‘we built this’ and more about ‘this is now part of people’s lives.’”

“Every project is a complex puzzle that demands curiosity, imagination and care,” says Perkins&Will’s Virginia Ch***pa Nunez. “The most interesting projects are the ones where the answer isn’t obvious at the beginning. It emerges through conversation with clients, as collaboration opens up new ways of thinking.”

“One of my favorite things about the Rockefeller Group projects is that no two are ever the same,” says PROJEX, Inc. senior designer Layne German. “Each project has its own personality, and the team is always intentional about creating spaces that feel connected to the surrounding community, culture, and people who will ultimately live there or work there. That approach makes every project feel thoughtful and unique rather than one-size-fits-all.”

Kenny Nguyen calls his three-dimensional mixed-media artwork “deconstructed paintings.”

He starts by tearing silk — a nod to his Vietnamese heritage and his fashion design background — into hundreds of strips, which he then cuts and dips into acrylic paint. Next, he reconstructs and layers each and every strip onto a canvas to create an entirely different visual experience.

“My work explores the concept of cultural identity, integration and displacement,” says the Vietnamese-American artist. “For me, silk has become the connector tying both cultures together.”

Follow Rockefeller Group for an upcoming behind-the-scenes look at the work Kenny created in our new corporate headquarters.
