Let’s stop pretending the fight over NYC listings is about the consumer. It’s about control.
Starting today, StreetEasy will start banning listings that have been privately marketed on other websites. It’s the latest development in a much bigger industry debate around private listings, listing access, and who controls real estate inventory.
There are arguments on both sides. But after 20+ years representing buyers and sellers, my opinion is simple:
More access to info is better for the consumer.
For sellers, broader exposure means more potential buyers. For buyers, they should be able to see all available listings in one place. As REBNY (Real Estate Board of New York) members, we have access to the same listings as any agent at Compass, Douglas Elliman, Brown Harris Stevens, Corcoran, or Sotheby’s, etc!
Chris and I didn’t build SIMPLE Real Estate to compete on size. We built it to compete on judgment, experience, and trust.
Being independent means we can stay focused on what actually matters: our clients, their goals and the best outcome for them.
No corporate agenda. No one-size-fits-all approach. Just thoughtful, intelligent representation curated around you.
