Susan R. Holden Assisting Buyers and Sellers in NYC & almost anywhere. My real estate career began as a rental agent, in Manhattan.

In time, many of my rental clients returned to me, seeking my services for their buying needs. I developed a reputation for being energetic, tenacious, and honest. Motivated by a sincere desire to help people, I soon became one of the top three sales agents at Halstead Property, a prestigious New York Real Estate firm. Marriage and motherhood brought me to Westport in 1989 and I began focusing my real estate career on the Westport, Wilton, Weston and Fairfield markets. After becoming familiar with the area, I sold enough properties to be recognized as one of the top agents at William Pitt Sothebys. In 2011, I again made a move, when my husband and I, accompanied by our three dogs, made our way to Boston. I continued to maintain my affiliation with Halstead Property in Manhattan and Fairfield County, while also joining Boston Realty Advisors, to service my clients in the Boston area. In early 2014, we returned to Westport, where I am now affiliated with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties (previously Prudential Connecticut Realty.) My strong negotiating, problem solving, and communication skills, honed over more than 35 years as a Realtor, allows me to bring an outstanding level of service and results to my sellers. My first-hand knowledge of the schools, activities, recreational facilities and all of the exceptional amenities that Fairfield County has to offer, allows my buyers to make an educated and confident decision, on the home that best fits their needs. Whether you are a first-time buyer or an empty nester looking to downsize, I will give you the time and attention every client deserves. I give every buyer and seller, the same guidance and commitment, as I would a valued friend, and frequently, that is what they become. I will guide you every step of the way, drawing on my extensive knowledge and experience. I look forward to assisting you with all of your real estate needs. I am licensed to sell real estate in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. I hold the Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) designation. In my free time, I enjoy good books, good films and good friends. I live in Westport, with my husband and 3 dogs.

When firefighters arrived at a burning home in Pueblo, Colorado, they were told something no first responder takes lightly.

There were animals still inside.

Two adult dogs. A litter of puppies. A pet rat in a cage.

The fire had broken out on the city’s north side shortly after 7:30 p.m. on August 2, and as crews worked to control the flames, others went inside to search. In a house filling with smoke, every second mattered.

One by one, seven puppies were carried out alive.

Then came the rat, still inside its cage.

But getting them out was only the first part of the rescue.

Several of the puppies had inhaled smoke and were struggling. Firefighters and EMTs got to work right there on the scene, giving oxygen and performing CPR on tiny bodies small enough to rest together in a towel-lined plastic tub.

The rat received oxygen too.

It is a small detail, but a powerful one. In that moment, size did not determine worth. Species did not determine compassion. They were living beings in need, and the people around them treated them that way.

Sadly, two adult dogs and one puppy did not survive. Their loss is part of this story too, and it deserves to be held with care.

No people were injured, and the surviving puppies were later taken to the Pikes Peak Humane Society for continued care. Photos shared by the department showed both the urgency and the tenderness of the rescue, from CPR on fragile puppies to firefighters holding the survivors after the danger had passed.

Firefighters are trained to protect human life first. But when they can, they often go back for the animals people love, the companions who cannot open doors, call for help, or understand why their world has suddenly filled with smoke.

Seven puppies and one small rat made it out because those crews kept looking.

Not every life could be saved.

But every life they could reach mattered.

Cold weather can be hard on dogs, especially seniors, puppies, short-haired breeds, and animals without proper shelter from wind, snow, and freezing temperatures.

A warm indoor space, dry bedding, fresh water, and protection from the elements can make a huge difference when temperatures fall.

Dogs may have fur, but that does not mean every dog is built to spend long periods outside in winter conditions.

When the weather becomes dangerous, comfort and safety should matter more than keeping a dog outdoors out of habit.

Would you skip your own meal if it meant your dog got to eat instead?

For a lot of pet owners out there, this isn't even really a question
