Rutherford County is one step closer to a one-year pause on new data center applications. It's a recommendation, not law yet.

On Oct 12, the Planning Commission voted to recommend the moratorium for unincorporated Rutherford County. It covers facilities of any size, including crypto mining, blockchain and quantum computing. Murfreesboro, Smyrna and La Vergne set their own rules.

What's next: the Public Works & Planning Committee meets Nov 3, and the full County Commission meets Nov 12. That's the earliest likely vote, and it's not confirmed yet.

For land and industrial owners, it's worth watching the final definition, timing on large unincorporated tracts, and future power and water standards.
