It’s a beautiful summer day at R1VER!

A large riverfront restaurant with a big patio is coming in summer to the new R1VER work-live development in Milwaukee's Harbor District.

The restaurant will be 6,000 square feet, which will allow for about 165 seats inside and 80 on a large patio with fire pits, along with casual lawn seating.

A 1,000-foot riverwalk open to the public will provide access to the riverfront restaurant. Besides outdoor seating, the area will have room for games and other activities.

The property will also have slips for boats on the river, and the restaurant plans to serve boaters there.

It will be a joint venture between Benson's Restaurant Group and the developer of River 1. The name and theme have not yet been revealed.

The operator behind AJ Bombers and other restaurants will open a new concept along the Kinnickinnic River in Michels Corporation’s R1VER development in Milwaukee.

That new restaurant would open onto a public river walk space in the ground floor of an apartment building under construction at R1VER (pronounced "river one"). Benson's Restaurant Group, which formerly operated as Hospitality Democracy, announced its plans to open that location this summer.

With Milwaukee's Harbor District drawing more development, the new River 1 mixed-use project is perhaps its most high-profile site.

River 1's first phase, an eight-story office building overlooking the Kinnickinnic River near South First and West Becher streets, is now complete and can been seen from nearby I-94.

A spring opening is planned for the five-story apartment building under construction east of the office building.

Also, a river walk is being built. That public walkway will include access to a riverfront restaurant, featuring a large patio, that will be part of the apartment building's ground-level.

We are excited for the return of Harbor Fest this weekend with more events than ever that celebrate boats, fish, rivers, science and all the things that make our waterfront great! This year, the Milwaukee Boat Parade and Sturgeon Fest are also part of the day-long extravaganza.

Dive into this free festival this weekend. (Not literally, please.)
