Happy National Family Literacy Month!

All November, we're celebrating what we see every day at Joyce's Legacy: when a parent learns, the whole family grows. Reading together, asking questions, and creating something side by side are the moments that build lifelong learners.

So we're starting the month with an invitation.

Join us for A Legacy of Joy, our 5th Annual Community Christmas Tree Decorating Celebration, hosted with Milwaukee Public Library and proudly sponsored by Mighty Small Moments.

The Magic of Joyce

Meet Joyce Davis, Mrs. Mercedez's grandmother and the heart behind our name.

Joyce LOVED the holidays! Spending time with family, hanging out with friends, laughing, and making memories. She had a way of making every celebration feel special.

Halloween was no exception! From carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating to watching It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and Hocus Pocus, she made it all magical. And if you know Hocus Pocus, you know "I Put a Spell on You" was one of her favorites! 🧙🏾‍♀️🎶

Looking back, it was never just about the holidays. It was about the memories she created and the love she poured into every moment.

The magic wasn't in Halloween. The magic was Joyce. ❤️

And that magic lives on through the memories, traditions, and legacy she left behind.

Cancer survivor. NOW GED GRADUATE!

Hospitals. Chemotherapy. Bed rest. Prayers. Days spent rebuilding strength.

Her journey to this moment has been anything but easy.

There were battles far greater than any GED exam. Moments when her health had to come first. Moments when simply finding the strength to keep going was an accomplishment in itself.

But her educational dreams never disappeared.

And today, we're celebrating more than a diploma. We're celebrating a woman who fought for her health, reclaimed her strength, and kept showing up for her future.

She survived. She persevered. And now, SHE FINISHED THE STORY!

December 9th, we're going to celebrate every bit of this victory.

This is why Joyce's Legacy Learning Center exists. Because your circumstances don't have to determine how your story ends.

Another Story Finished. Another Chapter Beginning!

Life has an interesting way of reconnecting people.

Years ago, our Executive Director, Mrs. Mercedez, and this soon-to-be GED graduate were childhood friends at Garfield Elementary School.

Who would've thought that all these years later, their paths would cross again at Joyce's Legacy Learning Center?

Her journey hasn't been easy, but it has certainly been worth it. Through the challenges, she kept pushing forward, and today, we couldn't be prouder of her!

On December 9th, she'll walk across the stage as a GED graduate, and that moment will mean a little something extra to our Executive Director.

Sometimes life comes full circle in the most unexpected ways.

We're saving a special piece of this story for graduation. 💜

HE FINISHED THE STORY!

ANOTHER GED GRADUATE!!!

This one right here! He spent so much time jumping around, trying to avoid what he knew he needed to finish. 😂 But one thing about us at Joyce's Legacy, we're not giving up on you just because you're having a hard time believing in yourself.

Today, he officially passed his FINAL GED test!

And when he found out? HE CRIED!

Because sometimes it's bigger than a test. It's the weight of something you've been carrying for years finally being lifted. It's realizing that the thing you've been avoiding is now behind you.

YOU DID IT. IT'S OVER. YOU'RE A GRADUATE!

December 9th is about to be something special! Another story finished. Another chapter beginning.

Congratulations, GRAD! We are so proud of you!
