Trees and walls go together like pineapple and pizza. 🌳

Here we have another crack caused by a tree — in this case a live oak, which makes it more complicated, because a protected tree like that typically means getting an arborist involved before anybody touches anything.

Anything related to cracking or upheaving of concrete, driveways or walls is stuff we do tons of. And we have the relationships to put the whole thing together: arborists of varying skill levels, landscapers to remove the trees, engineers to design the repair options.

So if that's what you're dealing with, give us a call. We can be the first step in the process for you.

I'm Matt DiBara, fourth generation and current owner at DiBara Masonry.

If you're looking to repair your driveway — concrete, pavers, an overlay product that's already failing, a stone driveway, a tile driveway — whatever material you have, we work on it.

So whether you want a seamless repair that blends into what's there, or you want to remove the whole thing and put down something clean and modern, it's the same conversation.

Anything related to driveways, I guarantee our family has seen it in the last 106 years. Give us a call.

Experts are warning that warmer ocean temperatures, wildfire-damaged terrain and increasingly extreme weather patterns could make this year's El Niño especially dangerous for hillside properties.

But the biggest threat isn't the rain itself. It's what happens beneath the surface as that rain saturates the soil.

Water infiltration weakens slopes, overwhelms drainage systems and increases pressure behind retaining walls. That's the chain that ends in damage in the high five figures — and none of it is visible from the driveway.

For just $97, a DiBara hillside specialist will inspect your retaining walls, drainage systems, slope conditions and exterior structures before small issues become major repairs.

Schedule your $97 hillside inspection today.

It's that time of year again. 🎃

The trick-or-treaters are coming, and these pesky little sidewalk and driveway repairs turn into a real problem when there are a few hundred kids walking up your path in the dark.

If you have a driveway that's cracked, sinking, settling, or has a large trip hazard like this one, now is probably the best time of year to get it taken care of.

We do driveways in concrete, pavers, brick, stone — any decorative finish you want. And if you'd rather just repair it and save some money, we can do it in a way where it matches and doesn't stick out.

Give us a call. We've been doing this 106 years in the family.

If there's an elevation change between your property and your neighbor's — a serious hillside like this one, or just a few feet — and you've got a retaining wall issue, sloping or grading issues, or waterproofing issues, what you want is an exterior hillside specialist.

Zoom in here. See this crack in the soil?

One of the most common things I see with contractors who aren't used to working in hillside conditions is the inability to read the soil. Even on something simple like a drainage amendment or a repair to a retaining wall, the questions are the same: where does the water go, what are the soil conditions, and what is this dirt telling us?

In this case that cracking points to an expansive element — probably saturated clay or fine sands.

It carries through everything. Even building a wall on a slope means a stepped foundation, which means calculating grade and elevation properly.

If you've got any of this at your place, look for a company with real relationships with surveyors, structural engineers and geotechnical engineers, and that pulls dozens and dozens of permits for this kind of work. Give us a call.

Don't wait until it fails.

If you have a brick-related project — a repair or new construction — those are some of our favorite projects to work on.

I'm Matt DiBara, fourth generation and current owner. My family has been doing brickwork for over 106 years.

Here's the part people underestimate. The hard work on a brick job isn't laying it. It's sourcing or matching a decorative brick, and then getting the color and texture of the mortar right. That's what separates a repair you notice from one you walk past without seeing.

Brick project in mind? Give us a call. We'd be happy to help you out.

Believe me when I say this is the calm before the storm.

Many meteorologists are warning that unusually warm ocean temperatures and increasing atmospheric moisture could create stronger, more intense storm patterns this winter.

Over the last several years, California has been through severe wildfires, prolonged droughts and extreme weather events that already weakened hillside areas across Los Angeles and the surrounding region. As vegetation disappears and soil becomes destabilized, properties get more vulnerable to poor drainage, soil movement, erosion, retaining wall pressure and overall slope instability.

The dangerous part? Most homeowners don't see the warning signs until a major storm exposes them.

If your home is on a hillside, now is the time to act. Schedule a consultation and our team will perform a hillside inspection to help you understand the risk you're actually carrying.

If you have a concrete restoration project — what does that actually mean?

It could be the exterior of a historical building. Or it could be something structural, like a parking garage or a concrete floor that needs to be repaired back to its original look and finish.

I'm Matt DiBara, fourth generation and current owner. We've been doing projects like this in the family for over 106 years, and we work with dozens of engineers and architects — so the design, the permitting and the work all happen in one place instead of three.

If that's what you have, give us a call and we can certainly help you out.

Did you know most retaining wall failures don't happen because of poor construction? They happen because water found its way in.

Meteorologists are warning that California may experience one of the strongest El Niño patterns in recent years — what's been dubbed the Super El Niño. Combine that with wildfire-scarred hillsides and aging drainage systems, and the risk to hillside properties goes up sharply.

If your property has retaining walls, sloped terrain, drainage concerns, or any signs of cracking or movement, it's worth having it looked at now rather than after.

For $97, a DiBara exterior hillside specialist will assess your property's condition and identify the risks before they become major structural problems.

I'm in Altadena today, walking one of our job sites.

If you have anything related to masonry, concrete, stucco — anything in the hardscaping world, maybe a retaining wall repair or a driveway — listen up.

A lot of projects around here are dug out and ready to go. Before all this work gets crazy and prices go through the roof, my recommendation is simple: call a qualified company and get yourself a bid.

Even if you don't do the work right away, knowing the number now could save you thousands later.

Give us a call and we can certainly help you out.
